Tablet styli are by and large very similar, with most utilizing soft rubber tips that feel the same. The Lynktec TruGlide Duo Stylus Pen ($39.95 list) distinguishes itself with a unique microfiber tip and a double-ended design?flip it over and it's an actual ballpoint pen. The TruGlide Duo does, in fact, glide smoothly across glass tablet screens, and its unusual cloth-like tip is plenty accurate and responsive. It works best with iPads, but its capacitive tip means it'll work with any device with a capacitive screen, including Android tablets.?
The TruGlide Duo, as mentioned before, has both a stylus end and a ballpoint pen end. A solid metal barrel connects the two ends and a single metal pen cap can attach to either end. With the pen cap over the stylus end, the TruGlide is indistinguishable from a typical metal ballpoint pen. It comes in either black or silver finishes, with chrome accents at both ends and on the pen cap. At 5.8 inches long and 0.9 ounces, the TruGlide Duo has a nice substantial feel to it. Unfortunately, the balance tends to skew towards whichever end the pen cap is attached to. Removing the cap provides a far more balanced feel and writing experience.
The microfiber tip is what sets this stylus apart, with what looks like thin metal fibers woven into a fabric material. Most styli, like the Wacom Bamboo Stylus Pocket, use a squishy rubber tip that provides more resistance, but also require more pressure to register strokes.
I tested the TruGlide Duo on an iPad 2 ?using the Sketchbook Express and Paper apps.?The TruGlide Duo barely provided any resistance and accurately registered strokes, even with lighter pressure. Writing using the TruGlide Duo was pleasant, but some might find it almost too smooth, as it was a bit more difficult to make slow and precise strokes than with more grippy rubber tips. The Pogo Sketch Pro, our Editors' Choice, has a great balanced feel and the friction of its tip more accurately recreates using a true writing implement.?
If you're not a fan of the nearly ubiquitous rubber tips found on most tablet styli, the Lynktec TruGlide Duo is worth checking out. Its double tipped design is useful, and it lives up to its name, with a smooth gliding action.
